Edith Beatrice Nancy Preston was the daughter of Harry Preston and his second wife, Edith Collings. Born in 1914, she was named Edith, but became known as Nancy, probably to avoid confusion over having the same name as her mother.
Nancy was presented at court in 1935, aged 21, following her father’s knighthood in 1933 (being presented at court was essentially a way for young women from aristocratic families to be introduced to upper-class society).
Nancy married Wlodzimierz Ossowicz in 1954. Wlodzimierz was a Polish cavalry officer during the Second World War.
